Ross Hauck
Founder, Ross Reels

Over thirty years ago the industry standard for manufacturing quality fly reels was defined by die-cast technology. While these reels were functional for their time, they were also fragile, heavy and susceptible to wear and corrosion. With the exception of a few high-priced saltwater and salmon reels, cast aluminum fly reels were the only option for the average angler, until 1973. Fly reel manufacturing was redefined by a man with a vision to produce a machined, mass marketed fly reel. In less than a year, Ross Hauck, the founder of Ross Reels, set a new benchmark in manufacturing processes - something that had remained unchallenged for more than 100 years. In tribute to his work, Ross Hauck's original design is still the standard by which all competitive reels are judged.

Ross Hauck was an investment mold-maker by trade, but his true love and passion in life was fly fishing. Although fly fishing was not a practical way to make a living, in 1973 Ross threw caution to the wind and embarked on a mission to create a fully machined fly reel that was saltwater approved and affordable to the average consumer; a product so durable that it could be guaranteed for life. His dream became a reality and within a year's time, Ross introduced the original R-series - a fly reel that started a revolution in fly reel design, manufacturing, and technology.

The R-series found instant success and enabled Ross Hauck to open his new business, Ross Reels, at the end of 1973. His revolutionary reels were like nothing anglers had seen before. The R-series quickly set the standard for all future entries into the fly tackle industry. Building on this success, Ross Reels continued to introduce innovative, high quality products in the years to follow. Now thirty years later, Ross Reels continues to set the standard for all other reel manufacturers, but it is the company's commitment to service that has developed a customer following that is rarely seen in business today. In fly fishing, service is king. Ross's commitment to quality and service is what keeps anglers on the water, wherever their passion takes them. It is this level of commitment that has vaulted Ross Reels from one man's dream to what is now the largest manufacturer of machined fly reels in the world.

When you buy Ross, you buy the company! There are a lot of fly reels on the market today. However, there are no other companies like Ross Reels.
